(English) Dairy-free spanakopitas

  • Level: 9 spanakopitas


  • 1 packet of phyllo dough
  • 300 g spinaches (once cooked)
  • medium onion
  • Lactose-free milk
  • 1 tbsp. Cornstarch
  • 5 chopped nuts
  • Olive oil
  • Salt


  1. Boil and drain the spinaches.
  2. Chopped the onion finely.
  3. Put a couple of tablespoons of olive oil into a saucepan alongside with the onion and slow cook it until onion softens.
  4. Add the spinaches and the cornstarch and stir.
  5. Add 2-3 dashes of milk and stir until you get a cream of spinaches.
  6. Add salt and nuts and take off from heat. Reserve.
  7. Preheat oven to 190º.
  8. Cut the phyllo dough into 8cm width strips.
  9. Put one strip and spread some olive oil on top. Repeat the process with 4-5 strips.
  10. Put a big tablespoon of spinach cream on one side and fold the strips to form triangles.
  11. Repeat the process until you finish the dough.
  12. Paint the spanakopitas with olive oil and spread some sesame seeds on top.
  13. Bake for 20 minutes.
