Crumble de Manzana

The first time I tried a Crumble, I was 18 and I was with a foster family in England. They were really good cooks and made me a rhubarb crumble. I didn’t know what on Earth was “a rhubarb” but I enjoyed it so much, I couldn’t come back to Spain without knowing more.

The problem here is what apple should we choose. Well, when baking an apple pie I have tried Granny Smith, Fuji, Royal Gala and Golden. My best results came from using Royal Gala and Golden, specially last one.

I never use Reineta, even when my mum is a public defender of it. Personally, I don’t like the taste and texture but a lot of people does and it’s easy to cook so go ahead if you want to use Reineta.

Don’t forget to serve the crumble warm and with a spoon of ice cream. Do it, you won’t regret it.

(English) Apple Crumble

I use to choose vanilla & caramel with Pecan nuts ice cream, but a vanilla solo ice cream it's fine too.

  • Serves: 4
  • Level: 1 medium baking dish

Ingredients

FILLING

  • 400 grams Golden apples
  • 70 grams caster sugar

CRUMBLE

  • 35 grams flour
  • 35 grams rolled oats
  • 35 grams butter
  • 25 grams caster sugar

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat oven to 190º.
  2. Peel and cut the apples into dices.
  3. Mix with the sugar in a saucepan and cook for 5 minutes over a low heat.
  4. Put it into an oven proof-baking dish.
  5. In a bowl, mix sugar, flour and rolled oat. Add the butter (cold and cut in dices) and mix with your fingers until you get a crumble.
  6. Spread i ton top of the apples.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden.
  8. Serve warm with a ball of vanilla ice cream.
